Body Composition Analysis
Bioelectrical Impedence Analysis with the seca mBCA 525
The seca mBCA 525 measurement is one of a kind in terms of function and performance and is trusted by the Mayo Clinic and Arizona State University. The 8 point Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis is done using a unique measuring system which measures all of the required parameters such as fat mass, muscle mass and body water. Bioelectrical impedance analysis works by sending a small electrical current into a person and measuring the opposition of that current (impedance) as it travels throughout the body’s water. Electrodes are placed on each hand and foot and a measuring mat lies over your lap. After 5 minutes of lying on your back the analysis is started. The segments of the body measured are the right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg, right half of body, left half of body and torso. Once impedance is measured, body composition analysis is complete.
Understanding Body Composition
When you step on a scale and see that you’ve lost 3 pounds, what did you really lose? 3 pounds of fat? Muscle? Water? Measuring your body composition allows you to truly understand the changes in your weight. Knowing how much fat you need to lose and how much muscle mass you are gaining can help tailor your diet and exercise plans to reach your goals. Your body composition analysis will be used as a guide to help determine your ideal weight and to monitor your progress throughout our weight management program.
We provide our clients with the most comprehensive body composition testing on the market!
Experience a cutting-edge bioelectrical impedance analysis with the seca mBCA 525. Our non-invasive assessment provides an in-depth analysis measuring fat and fat-free mass, skeletal muscle mass, visceral adipose tissue, intra and extra-cellular water, all at a clinical level of precision. Distinguish between muscle gain and fat loss and understand the real health benefits even when your weight remains the same.
The following measurements and results are delivered:
Body Composition Chart (BCC)
It may seem simple to differentiate between a malnourished or obese individual. However, an extremely thin patient can have a lot of body fat while a seemingly overweight patient can have a high amount of muscle mass. The clearly arranged results provide you with immediate information about your body composition. Often times this allows you to make better decisions about your nutrition, treatment modalities, weight loss and or muscle building programs. We recommend a series of measurements 3-4 times per year to enable your progress and therapy to be reliably monitored and controlled.
Fat Mass / Fat-Free Mass / Visceral Fat
The fat mass and fat-free mass can be quickly, reliably and precisely recorded only by means of a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis measurement. It helps to determine and monitor the correct nutritional status and therapy. The amount of visceral fat can also be precisely determined, which is otherwise possible only through time-consuming imaging procedures. This enables an estimate of the risks to your heart and metabolism.
Bioelectrical Impedance Vector Analysis (BIVA)
The BIVA forms an important diagnostic basis for nutritional medicine. The measuring point provides information about the state of hydration and the body cell mass, which provides a good overview of the general state of health and nutrition. This makes it possible to detect whether there is a lack of nutrition or if additional vitamins, minerals and electrolytes are necessary.
Body Water
Total body water, intracellular water and extracellular water are measured separately. This supports the detection of edemas, the improved evaluation of weight increase or decrease and it helps detect whether or not you are properly hydrated.
Skeletal Muscle Mass
The values for the torso and extremities are provided individually and displayed in your results graphic. Increasing and maintaining muscle mass plays a key role in nutritional medicine because it helps to burn fat and positively influences the body’s energy.
Phase Angle
Studies verify that a high phase angle shows a good condition of the cells and their functions. A very low phase angle is measured in the case of poor nutrition and cancer patients. It is very valuable and a good parameter for the current state of your health.
What makes the seca mBCA 525 the best?
The gold standard for measuring body composition consists of a 4 compartment method. The 4 compartments measured are Fat Mass, Total Body Water, Bone Mass and Residual Muscle Mass. The seca mBCA is validated to be 98% accurate to the 4 compartment method. Many other devices only measure 2 or 3 compartments and don’t give a complete analysis of body composition. The seca mBCA 525 can also calculate segmental muscle tissue in each limb and torso to a 97% accuracy and separate water into extra and intra cellular fluid volumes for total body hydration status. The results of all the parameters measured are presented separately on a clearly organized 2-page printout that can be printed or emailed to you. The results are also saved for future comparison readings. View a sample reading printout!
Getting Started with Body Composition Analysis
The Body Composition Analysis is now included with the Initial Health & Nutrition Assessment. We will perform your analysis on your first appointment with the nutritionist. During the consultation, the nutritionist will go over the details of how the analysis works and what to expect. Results are provided to the client immediately. We are here to help each client improve or maintain their body composition and provide a variety of programs and therapies designed to help each person achieve their goals!
